Inglewood traces its beginnings to an 1887 land subdivision by the Centinela Inglewood Land Company along the Venice and Inglewood railway, and the city officially incorporated on February 14, 1908. Longtime landowner Daniel Freeman and the historic Centinela Adobe are central to that early history, and the city grew steadily through the twentieth century into one of the South Bay area's most significant business and entertainment hubs.
